On September 9th, 2023, I had the privilege of attending the BreakinMIA Undefeated event at Mad Arts, a breathtaking venue that has set its sights on redefining the art experience. Located in South Florida, Mad Arts has quickly become a hotspot for modern art enthusiasts, boasting features such as video display walls, a holographic booth, and an immersive dance space that transports you into the vibrant world of movement and rhythm.

The BreakinMIA Undefeated event was a spectacle like no other. Dancers from various backgrounds and styles battled head-to-head for the coveted prize of $1000 in cash. What set this event apart was not just the impressive prize but the worldwide livestream broadcast on YouTube and Twitch, ensuring that the passion and talent of these dancers reached a global audience.

Setting the Stage at Mad Arts

As I entered Mad Arts, I was immediately enveloped in the electric atmosphere of the event. I couldn’t help but feel the palpable energy in the air as dancers, spectators, and enthusiasts alike came together to celebrate the art of dance.

A significant shout-out must go to the event’s sponsors, who played a crucial role in elevating Hip-Hop culture through this competition. Their support and dedication to fostering the dance community were evident throughout the night.

Hosts of the Evening

The event was expertly hosted by Sonja la Makina, @sonjalamakina, and Sergio Garcia, aka “Zeku.” With Stance Elements, a leading global source for dance coverage, providing live coverage of the event, Sonja and Sergio were able to shine a spotlight on the vibrant dance community in South Florida.

One of the remarkable aspects of this event, as with previous editions, was its commitment to showcasing diverse styles of dance and welcoming dancers from all corners of the world. Participants like Carlito Walker, better known as “King Luffy,” traveled from out of state to be a part of this dance extravaganza.

To fuel our energy for the night, we indulged in the delectable offerings from Gabriel Zabala’s Chill N’ Burger Food Truck, where we savored the Chill N Burger Deluxe with caramelized onions—an explosion of diverse flavors that perfectly complemented the evening.

Between the preliminary rounds and the finals, I took some time to explore Marts Arts further. The venue’s exhibitions showcased a stunning array of artistic expressions that left me inspired and in awe of the creative talents on display.

As the evening progressed, the energy in the room reached its zenith during the finals. The competitors poured their hearts and souls into their performances, leaving nothing behind on the dance floor. What truly distinguishes BreakinMIA’s Undefeated events is the diversity of styles on display, from Krump and Breakdancing to pop-locking and much more. Each performance was a heartfelt expression of the contestants’ passions.

The final showdown saw two exceptional dancers, Carlito Walker, aka “King Luffy,” and QJ Ware, aka “Attitude,” go head to head. It was Krump versus a Flexer animator—a clash of two entirely different styles. “Attitude” electrified the crowd with his high-energy performance, which resonated with the audience, evident from their cheers and applause. Not to be outdone, “King Luffy” cranked up the energy in the second round, delivering a performance that had everyone on their feet.

In the end, “Attitude” emerged victorious, securing the grand prize and leaving an indelible mark on the night’s proceedings.

The BreakinMIA Undefeated event at Mad Arts was a testament to the power of dance, art, and culture coming together. It was a night that celebrated diversity, passion, and creativity—a night that will be remembered by all who had the privilege of attending.
