PortMiami, FL – MSC Cruises has marked a significant milestone in the countdown to the April 2025 launch of MSC World America, announcing the successful completion of the ship’s sea trials in the Atlantic Ocean. This massive next-generation vessel is the second in MSC’s World Class series and the first of its kind to be deployed specifically for the North American cruise market.
The sea trials, which lasted several days, were carried out by a team of engineers, technicians, and captains who rigorously tested the ship’s systems, safety features, and performance across a variety of sea and weather conditions. The trials took place off the coast of France and were declared a major success, with all onboard systems functioning as expected, clearing the way for the vessel’s final outfitting ahead of its maiden voyage.
A New Chapter for MSC in North America
Set to be delivered on April 24, 2025, MSC World America will be officially named during a christening ceremony in Miami, Florida, before it begins offering 7-night cruises to the Caribbean from PortMiami. The new ship represents a bold move by MSC Cruises to strengthen its presence in the North American market and appeal to a growing base of U.S.-based cruisers.
With a gross tonnage exceeding 215,000 GT, the ship is being constructed by Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France—one of the most respected shipyards in the world. The vessel will accommodate up to 6,762 passengers, boasting cutting-edge design, advanced environmental technology, and a wide array of amenities tailored to American tastes.
“This is a major moment in our expansion across the Americas,” said MSC Cruises in a statement. “MSC World America is not just a ship—it’s a statement of our long-term commitment to providing guests with next-generation experiences that reflect both sustainability and luxury.”
Sustainability at Sea
MSC World America will be the first LNG-powered vessel in the MSC Cruises fleet to be based in North America. Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is currently one of the cleanest marine fuels available at scale, significantly reducing emissions of sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter compared to traditional fuels.
Beyond fuel innovation, the ship will also feature shore power connectivity, advanced wastewater treatment systems, and energy-efficient designs that align with MSC’s broader net-zero ambitions.
“Our goal is to set new standards in sustainable cruising,” said officials from MSC Cruises. “By leveraging LNG and smart onboard systems, we’re aiming to reduce our carbon footprint and lead by example in maritime sustainability.”

Designed for American Cruisers
MSC World America was purpose-built for the American cruise market. From family-friendly entertainment and waterparks to international cuisine, expansive wellness offerings, and a revamped MSC Yacht Club experience, the ship was designed to offer an unmatched blend of comfort and adventure.
One of the most anticipated onboard features is the “World Promenade,” a stunning open-air space that extends the length of the ship’s aft and offers breathtaking ocean views, interactive LED light shows, and live entertainment. The “World Galleria”, a central indoor hub, will offer dining, shopping, and socializing options in a vibrant atmosphere under a state-of-the-art digital sky dome.
The ship will also introduce new dining venues and immersive tech-forward experiences, in line with current trends in experiential travel and personalization.
Ready for Takeoff
With sea trials complete and final construction phases underway, excitement is building across the cruise and travel industry for MSC World America’s entry into service. Travel advisors and cruise enthusiasts alike are eager to witness MSC’s most ambitious U.S. launch to date.
MSC Cruises currently ranks as the third-largest cruise brand in the world, and its aggressive push into the North American market has included the expansion of its fleet, enhanced travel partnerships, and the recent opening of the high-tech Terminal F at PortMiami—a $350 million terminal capable of handling 36,000 passengers daily.
The maiden voyage of MSC World America will set sail on April 26, 2025, with itineraries visiting top Caribbean destinations including Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, MSC’s private island in the Bahamas that doubles as a marine conservation center.
