Miami’s downtown streets will soon fill with books, author conversations and family activities as the Miami Book Fair returns for its 43rd edition. The eight-day festival runs Nov. 15-22 at Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus, with the public Street Fair taking over Nov. 20-22.
Whether you’re aiming for Margaret Atwood, Colson Whitehead, or a full day with the kids, a little planning can make the difference between a smooth visit and a scramble between venues. Here’s what to know about dates, admission, parking and featured events, based on information from Miami Book Fair, Miami Dade College and the event’s online guide.
Dates, hours and Street Fair tickets
The main festival takes place Sunday, Nov. 15, through Sunday, Nov. 22, at Wolfson Campus, 300 NE Second Ave., in downtown Miami. The Street Fair, with booksellers, exhibitors, family programming and author sessions, runs the final three days.
According to the fair’s official Street Fair schedule, hours are:
- Friday, Nov. 20: 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Admission is free for everyone.
- Saturday, Nov. 21: 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
- Sunday, Nov. 22: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
The gates are scheduled to open at 9 a.m. each day. Saturday and Sunday admission is $12 for adults, $7 for seniors age 62 and older, and $5 for teens ages 13-18. Multiday passes cost $18 for adults, $12 for seniors and $8 for teens. Children 12 and under are free. Miami Dade College students, faculty and staff also get free admission with valid MDC identification, according to the fair’s frequently asked questions.
Street Fair admission covers the general grounds and many activities, but it does not automatically include every ticketed author event. Check individual program listings before heading over, and confirm current availability through the official ticket and event pages.
Parking and getting to Wolfson Campus
The simplest option for drivers may be the MDC Wolfson Campus Parking Garage at 500 NE Second Ave. Miami Book Fair says parking there is free from Nov. 15 through Nov. 22. The garage entrance is on NE Fifth Street between First and Second avenues, with about a one-block walk to the nearest fair entrance. Because streets around campus close for the event, the fair advises drivers to use 145 NE Fifth St. when mapping a route. Full directions are on the fair’s parking page.
For a paid alternative, the Miami Parking Authority lists College Station garage, 190 NE Third St., at a flat $5 fee during the fair period. Access is via NE Second Street. Check the official parking information before departing in case availability or instructions change.
Public transit can also help avoid downtown traffic and the search for a space. The fair’s directions recommend taking Metrorail to Government Center and transferring to the Metromover, then exiting at College Bayside or College North. Visitors arriving on Brightline can connect from MiamiCentral to the Metromover. Ride-share passengers should use the designated drop-off at the Green entrance on NE First Avenue, south of NE Third Street, according to the fair.
Children’s Alley brings three days of family programming
Families can spend Street Fair weekend in Children’s Alley, an activity area organized around four themed canopies: Learn!, Create!, Participate! and Innovate! Miami Dade College says the program will combine stories and author appearances with science activities, arts workshops, music, theater, performances and hands-on digital exploration.

The Learn! canopy is set to feature science demonstrations, workshops and animal encounters. Create! offers arts activities and make-and-take crafts, while Participate! centers on music, movement, theater and other performances. At Innovate!, children can explore digital projects and creative tools. See the Children’s Alley program page for schedules and updates.
One family-friendly extra: children can pick up a Wordsmith Passport at the information booth, complete activities around Children’s Alley, collect stamps and redeem the passport for a free book, according to MDC’s announcement. Children 12 and under also attend the Street Fair free.
Atwood, Whitehead and a wide-ranging author lineup
Two featured appearances offer very different ways to spend time with a celebrated writer.

Colson Whitehead appears Thursday, Nov. 19, at 8 p.m. in the Auditorium on the second floor of Building 1. His event focuses on Cool Machine, the third volume of his Harlem Trilogy. The $35 ticket includes a copy of the book and admission for one person, according to the event listing. The listing also offers a $10 companion ticket that does not include a book. Since this event falls before Street Fair weekend, check its ticket page for any separate Street Fair admission details.
Margaret Atwood appears Saturday, Nov. 21, at 11 a.m. in the Chapman Conference Center, Building 3, second floor. The $20 event pairs her memoir, Book of Lives: A Memoir of Sorts, with an appearance by Jess Gibson, author of The Good Eye: Stories. The ticket does not include either book, according to the official program listing.
A schedule clarification for readers considering a related Friday event: the Next Page Dinner takes place Nov. 20 at the JW Marriott Marquis Miami, but the event page names Judy Blume and the late Sandy Nusbaum and his family as its honorees, not Atwood. The dinner is a separately listed event; see the official details.
The two headliners are part of a much larger program. The fair’s 2026 overview highlights nearly 500 authors, including Marlon James, Bonnie Garmus and Tony Shalhoub. The Evenings With series runs during the festival, Nov. 15-20, with ticketed and free programs listed individually. For visitors with a specific author in mind, checking the schedule before arrival is the best way to confirm times, rooms and ticket requirements.

What to know before you go
Save the fair’s online guide and directions before setting out. If you’re going on Friday, Nov. 20, Street Fair admission is free; Saturday and Sunday require tickets for most visitors. Allow time for the walk from the garage, security checks and moving between campus buildings, and verify ticketed-event details on the official listings.
